Stampin' Up! has announced it's color renovation for the new catalog year. This renovation is done every two to three years. Many of the colors are returning In Colors and we have one never before seen color called Smokey Slate.  Sadly with a renovation comes the retiring of some of the other colors.  Those retiring are:
Regal Rose
Pretty in Pink
Bashful Blue
Certainly Celery
Baja Breeze
Riding Hood Red
Bravo Burgundy
Not Quite Navy
More Mustard
River Rock

There will be new In Colors for this year which will be announced later.
Be sure to go to my demonstrator website to stock up if some of these retiring colors are some of your favorites.

Spring/Easter Cards

It is hard to believe that the time has gone by so fast. It is almost Easter. It seems that it was just Christmas. I am glad though because I am tired of the snow and welcome warm sunshine, flowers and green grass.

This card makes use of  Apothecary Accents framelit as a stencil to sponge my Whisper White CS with Perfect Plum ink. Then using markers to color on my stamp I put an image from the stamp set Just Believe over the top of the stenciled area. I then ran this through the Big Shot using the Vintage Wallpaper EF. The base card it is adhered to is Certainly Celery. Super easy and you could leave as is or add any number of embellishments or sayings.

The base card is Daffodil Delight with a layer of So Saffron run through the Big Shot with the Stripes EF. The next layer uses the Lattice Bigz die and some of the DSP from the Print Poetry Designer Series Paper Stack. Next I used Bitty Butterfly punch and Elegant Butterfly Punch after stamping butterflies from Papillon Potpourri stamp set onto Wisteria Wonder, Perfect Plum and Elegant Eggplant with Elegant Eggplant ink. I punched flowers from Melon Mambo and Pretty in Pink CS using the Boho Blossoms punch. The leaves were cut from Gumball Green CS using the Little Leaves Sizzlit. After arranging everything on the card I added Pearl Basics to the centers of the flowers. Next I used Delightful Dozen stamp set to stamp Happy Easter on Very Vanilla CS and punching this out with the Scallop Oval punch.

Mixed Media Framed

I have been wanting to create a frame that could be used as a gift and so I took the plunge. The mat on  this project is cut from a sheet of Natural Composition Specialty DSP. I stamped a piece of Crumb Cake CS using Ex Libris stamp and Early Espresso ink. The corner pieces were created from a second Ex Libris embossed with Pewter EP and cutting the corners to apply to the original Espresso stamped image. I used the second image that I had stamped to cut out the blank space and stamped the Forever image from Forever with You stamp set in Old Olive. This was adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals. I used Watercolor Pencils and a blender pen to color some of the images in the Ex Libris  image. Using a scrap of First Edition DSP, I used the boneshaker from the Feeling Sentimental stamp set from the Sale a Bration catalog in Early Espresso and distressed it. (The large Ex Libris piece was distressed using the new distressing tool on the edges) I used 1/4 of a doily cut using the large Paper Doily Sizzlit, First Edition DSP and sponging with More Mustard and Soft Suede ink to antique it. The same ink was used to distress the lace piece from the Artisan Embellishment Kit. The heart button and scroll work button came from the same kit. The butterfly is stamped from Papillon Potpourri and embossed with Pewter EP and then punched with the Elegant Butterfly punch. Now I have so many ideas running through my head for more frame projects. With graduations, weddings, Mother's Day and Father's Day coming up, these make great gifts from the heart.

February Blog Hop

 Spring = Flowers and Butterflies

This card features the DSP called Tea for Two. I layered 2 pieces from the same sheet of paper using one side as the mat and the other side as the background for the heart cut from Very Vanilla using the Hearts a Flutter framelit which is the focal point. One of the Antique Brads, Soft Suede 3/8" Taffeta ribbon and sentiment from Occasional Quotes  finish off the design. Papers were distressed using the new distressing tool and Soft Suede ink. Base card is Certainly Celery.

Tea For Two Birthday

Calypso Coral and Pool Party Combo

Starting with a base card of Pool Party card stock, I layered first with Calypso Coral and then with paper from the Sycamore Street DSP collection. The flower is constructed from Pop up Posies using a button from the Sycamore Street Button and Ribbon set and a large rhinestone. Then a strip of the fabric from the Tea for Two group. I could not find my box of Vintage Trinkets so used a safety pin from my sewing box colored with a Sharpie marker to pin the sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes stamped on a piece of Pool Party punched with the 7/8" Scallop Circle punch.

Creating this card I looked up the coloring for real butterflies to color mine. My base card is Crumb Cake and I used the First Edition Specialty DSP for the layered piece. I used the new distressing tool again and after stamping it with the Swallowtail in Soft Suede and edging it to "antique" it. I used the Papillon Potpourri set, stamping with Versa Mark and Black embossing powder.  My Watercolor Pencils came out of the drawer and were used to color each butterfly as realistically as I could to mimic a Blue Admiral, Zebra Monarch  and another exotic swallowtail. I then used the Bitty Butterfly Punch and the Elegant Butterfly Punch. I used the linen thread and the ticket punch stamped with a sentiment from Bloomin' Marvelous.

Butterflies...Real or Not??

I can't believe that Spring will soon be here. What a relief, the cold especially this last week,  has been brutal.  Three of the cards I used in my class this last weekend, but "glammed" up a little from the original are what I am showing today. To my ladies who attended the class, what do you think?

This first card was supposed to be the "glammed" version of the card following it, but you know how things sometimes seem to go in an entirely different direction? Well this one did. It is actually a 6x6 card that can be used as a scrapbook double page layout or parts of progressive pages. It was made using Cherry Cobbler CS, World Spectacular DSP, linen thread, large Pearl Basic jewels, Apothecary Accents Framelit, Large Scallop Edgelit and lots of dimensionals. Of course the silly picture is my grandson Hunter who decided to say something as the picture was taken. This will be used for his 4th Birthday next October.

Combo Birthday Card and 6x6 Scrapbook pages

Next we have a  card that inspired, if you will, the above. See what I mean about different direction? Well, it's still a carnival, right? This card uses Pool Party, Soft Suede, Daffodil Delight, and Very Vanilla CS, more of the World Spectacular DSP, 7/16"Natural Trim Ribbon from the new Occasions catalog, Pool Party seam binding, Ticket Duo Builder punch, Perfect Polka Dot EF, Medallion stamp (retired) and the SAB stamp set Feeling Sentimental.

Antique Ferris Wheel

Here is a birthday card made using the Secret Garden Bundle from the Occasions catalog. All the flowers were stamped and embossed using WW CS and then watercolored as were the little bees from the Nature Walk stamp set. The sentiment is from the Sassy Salutations set. I used the Cherry Cobbler Core'dinations CS with the Honeycomb EF layered on Basic Gray CS.

Spring Birthday

Then a St. Valentine's Day card. I love Valentines as to me they are the perfect opportunity to do vintage. Though not true vintage because it isn't distressed, it is like the old time Valentines that I remember. For this card I used Pink Pirouette CS, More Amore DSP, Hearts a Flutter Bundle and elements from the Artisan Embellishment Kit. The hat pin came from the Clearance Rack and the pearl from the now retired Pretties Kit.

Vintage Valentine

I hope you enjoyed these creations.

                                                                 Christmas Angel
This little angel has been floating around in my brain for about a year now. I used the Petal Cone die, Elegant Bird die (I borrowed his wings), 1 1/4"circle punch, Paper Doily Sizzlet, 1 3/4" scallop circle punch, silver shimmer paper, white shimmer paper, and Whisper White Organza Ribbon. She sits flat and since she is open on the bottom can be placed atop a tree.

                                                               Mardi Gras Mask

This was fun to do and my family will attest that it took awhile to get it the way I wanted. The butterfly mask is watercolored followed by shimmer paint. I cut the mask using the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die and watercolor paper. The embellishments were Seam Binding Ribbon, Rhinestone Basics colored with Sharpie Markers, and some feathers I used markers to color. My CS colors are Elegant Eggplant, Gumball Green and Daffodil Delight.

                                                                 St Valentine's Day Card
I used Rose Red CS, Natural Composition Specialty DSP, Rose Red Seam Binding Ribbon, Crochet Trim, You Are Loved Stamp Set, Pewter Embossing Powder, and Decorative Label Punch to create this card. I believe that this is a card that could be given to either a man or a woman.

Christmas Treat  Card
This would make a great stocking stuffer. It could also be used to hold a cookie, gift card or some small flat item. It is made like any regular 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 card but the front is cut at an angle.

                                                                       Star Ornament

This ornament was made using a large circle and the Pennant Builder punch as well as Snowflake 2 and Snowflake Flurries dies, assorted DSP and Glimmer Paper. They are double sided and can be used as a tag on a package or a tree ornament. I have to say these take awhile to make.

Wreath from Star Ornaments

Last month in the SU demonstrator magazine a star ornament was pictured, made by Michelle Garcia. I played with that star and came up with my own variation. Here are some of these addictive little sparklers on a wreath with some photos of close up detail. I have ideas for a bunch more including making them double sided.
